Insecticides boost Amvac in Q2
Strong sales of insecticides boosted American Vanguard’s revenues by 6% to $84.8 million in the second quarter of 2012. Insecticide sales were up by 32.2% to $45.4 million. Sales of granular soil insecticides grew by some 14%, led by Thimet (phorate), Nemacur (fenamiphos) and Aztec (tebupirimfos + cyfluthrin). Earlier-than-usual demand for Counter (terbufos) reduced demand for that product in the second quarter, while Mocap (ethoprophos) sales were held back by low supplies. There were very strong sales of other insecticides, which were up by about 80%. Demand was particularly strong for the cotton insecticide, Bidrin (dicrotophos).
