Winter sowing up in India
The total area under rabi (winter) crops in India inched up by 0.2% to 62.9 million ha, says the Indian Ministry of Agriculture. That was 1.5% above the five-year average of 62 million ha. A 5% increase in the area under coarse cereals to 6.3 million ha led growth. The area under wheat was almost flat at 29.8 million ha. Sowing of pulses and oilseeds went up by 1% and 1.3%, respectively.
