Imports of pesticides into Uruguay inched 4% higher in 2011 to $133.8 million, according to the Ministry of Agriculture’s agricultural services directorate general, the DGSS. That followed a jump of over 40% the previous year, but still lagged the $185 million of imported pesticides in 2008. The figures do not include imports of raw materials. The Ministry reported a fall in imports of over 40% to $107 million for 2009, including of formulated products and active ingredients ( Agrow No 587, p 22).
