ISK’s flonicamid to join EU Annex I
Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha (ISK)’s new insecticide, flonicamid, will be added to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) on September 1st 2010. The European Commission confirmed the completion of the active ingredient’s EU assessment after it was cleared by the EU regulatory committee earlier this year ( Agrow No 598, p 12). The application for EU approval was originally submitted in 2003. Flonicamid already holds provisional approvals in several EU countries, as Teppeki, for use on a range of crops. EU member states must now convert these into full approvals. The Annex I conditions stipulate that appropriate risk mitigation measures should be imposed, if necessary, to protect operators, re-entry workers and bees.
