UK revokes Agrotech’s chlorothalonil approval
The UK Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) has revoked the approval for sale, supply, use and advertisement of Austrian company Agrotech Trading’s (Mauthausen) fungicide, Agrotech Chlorthalonil 500SC (chlorothalonil), effective May 19th. Analysis of samples showed high levels of hexachlorobenzene (HCB), a possible human carcinogen with established maximum residues levels, the CRD says. Further, concentrations of the active ingredient were often significantly lower than the declared content of 40.4%. The Directorate stipulates that unused containers of the product be returned and pending return, the product may continue to be stored until July 31st. It notes that Jersey-based company AgChemAccess (St Clements), a distributor of the product, has taken steps to prevent new stocks being placed on the market and recalled remaining stocks held by other distributors.
