French Council OKs BASF’s Amflora

The French official biosafety body, the High Council of Biotechnologies (HCB), says that its toxicological studies have not identified any major risk associated with the consumption of BASF’s genetically modified improved starch Amflora potato. The scientific committee of the HCB clarified that although the amylopectin-enriched starch-producing potato line is not intended for human consumption, it could be inadvertently consumed through its intended use in the manufacture of paper and possible use of by-products in feed.
