Japan and Taiwan OK Syngenta’s GM amylase maize
Japan and Taiwan have given import, food and feed use approval to Syngenta’s genetically modified Enogen amylase maize trait (Event 3272). The maize expresses a bacterial Thermococcales spp thermostable alpha-amylase. It was developed primarily for use as a dry grind bio-ethanol feedstock where it obviates the need to add amylase to achieve starch hydrolysis prior to fermentation. Japan has also approved the trait stacked with Syngenta’s GM herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant Agrisure 3000GT.
