Sumitomo’s agchem sales strong in first quarter
Sumitomo Chemical benefited from strong herbicide sales in overseas markets in the first quarter ended June 30th 2010, the company says. However, overall sales of the company’s agricultural chemicals division fell by 2.8% to ¥52,703 million ($609 million at the current rate), due to lower feed additive sales. Divisional operating income rose by 9.1% to ¥6,868 million ($79 million). Interim pesticide figures are not given, but agrochemicals accounted for 62.1% of the division’s annual sales in 2009/10 ( Agrow No 594, p 5).
