US to approve Premier’s biofungicides
The US EPA proposes to register three Bacillus pumilus strain GHA180-based biofungicides from Canadian company Premier Horticulture (Riviere du Loup, Quebec). GHA 180 Biological Fungicide is a 0.43% aqueous suspension for incorporation into growing media or use as a soil drench in greenhouses and enclosed nurseries. Pro-Mix GHA180 and Pro-Mix Tandem are a series of growing media formulations containing 0.001% B pumilus strain GH180. The bacterium colonises plant roots to form a biofilm and produces metabolites to suppress pathogens such as Alternaria spp, Fusarium spp Pythium spp and Rhizoctonia spp. Premier applied for US approvals in 2010 ( Agrow No 605, p 22). The registration decision is open to public comment until March 11th.
