Brazil’s citrus growers lobby for fungicides

The Brazilian citrus growers’ association, Fundecitrus, hosted a meeting of pesticide suppliers this month to discuss the supply of alternatives to the fungicide, carbendazim. The active ingredient was removed from the Brazilian Agriculture Ministry’s export safe list for citrus, the PIC, earlier this year. That followed the detection of illegal levels of carbendazim residues in orange juice at US ports by the Food and Drug Administration ( Agrow No 631, p 13). It began seizing shipments of imported juice from Brazil.
