Brazil’s agchem container recycling up 8%
The safe disposal or recycling of empty pesticide containers rose by 8% to 19,550 tonnes in Brazil in the first half of this year, the recycling organisation, the inpEV, reports. The well-established national programme continues to improve results after another record recycling year in 2011 of 35,000 tonnes ( Agrow No 633, p 16). Around 9% of such containers are being correctly recycled or withdrawn at some 400 units across the country, inpEV chief executive Jaoa Rando notes. The system has processed some 220,000 tonnes of empty containers in the past decade, while the release of around 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide has been offset, the equivalent to 571,000 barrels of oil, the association adds.
