Bifenthrin’s EU approval confirmed
The European Commission has issued the formal EU re-registration of the insecticide, bifenthrin. FMC’s re-application was cleared by the EU regulatory committee in June ( Agrow No 642, p 12). The move will return the active ingredient to the market, after it was phased out in 2011 as a result of an earlier Commission decision against re-registration. The new approval starts from August 1st and runs for seven years, rather than the standard ten. The shorter period is due to bifenthrin’s potential to show bioaccumulation effects.
