Andermatt’s Bolldex OK’d in South Africa
Swiss biopesticide company Andermatt Biocontrol (Grossdietwil) has been granted approval in South Africa for its Helicoverpa armigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus-based bioinsecticide, Bolldex. The product is authorised for the control of African bollworms ( Harmigera) on soybeans, sorghum, millets, beans, chickpeas, lettuces, peas, sweet corn and tomatoes. Bolldex will be distributed in South Africa by Madumbi Sustainable Agriculture (Pietermaritzburg). South African biological farming products company Madumbi Bio Farms (Gillitts) acquired a majority stake in Andermatt’s South African subsidiary last year, and branded it Madumbi Sustainable Agriculture ( Agrow No 611, p 8).. Bolldex has provisional approvals in Greece and Italy, where it is sold as Helicovex. Andermatt set up its South African subsidiary in 2010 ( Agrow No 594, p 2).
