Brazil Anvisa OKs Dow’s spinetoram
The Brazilian national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, has added Dow AgroSciences’ insecticide, spinetoram, to its list of approved pesticide active ingredients for use in agriculture. The agency assesses toxicology aspects for ais. It has authorised use of spinetoram as a foliar application on ten crops including maize and soybeans. The Anvisa approval was issued in the national gazette last month. Full approval of the ai requires authorisation of three competent bodies, ultimately of the Ministry of Agriculture. Spinetoram received its first approval in New Zealand in 2007 ( Agrow No 526, p 21), and gained its first in South America the following year in Colombia for use on pome and stone fruit ( Agrow No 559, p 22).
