US agchem residue violations remain low
Nearly 99% of food samples routinely tested by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009 complied with pesticide tolerances, according to the latest figures issued by the FDA. The 1.4% violation rate was slightly higher than the 0.9% figure seen in 2008, which was reported in 2010 (Agrow No 603, p 14). The figure is in line with previous violation rates, which have ranged between 0.7% and 2.4% over the previous 12 years, the FDA notes.
