EU GMO & agchem rules may hinder farmers
EU policies on genetically modified organisms put the region’s farmers at a competitive disadvantage compared with those in other countries, concludes a paper by the EU presidency, currently held by Spain. It also questions whether new EU agrochemical rules may affect competitiveness. The paper covers a wide range of EU legislation and is based on the conclusions of member states’ Chief Veterinary Officers. It is targeted at the European Commission, which is due to produce an impact analysis of EU agricultural imports by the end of the year.
