EFSA outlines test method for pesticide metabolites

Tests on pesticide metabolites could be improved using a method of setting minimum toxicological thresholds for substances with similar chemical structures, concludes the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). It identifies the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) concept as an appropriate screening tool. The TTC was recommended in a 2010 study commissioned by the EFSA as part of its investigation into the dietary risk assessment of pesticide residues ( Agrow No 590, p 11).
