Argentina to build agbiotech R&D facility
The Argentine government is to finance the building of an agricultural biotechnology R&D centre in the country. The estimate for the construction of the facility is some Peso 18 million ($3.6 million). The Minister of Science and Innovative Production signed a financing deal with the governor of Chaco province in which the central government will lend some Peso 14,000 million ($2.8 million). The building will cover 2,500 m 2 and be located at the agricultural education school in Chaco. The facility will count on: productive, evaluation and analysis results; specific biotechnology laboratory rooms; molecular biology and greenhouse production areas. It will focus on the development of various plants including oilseeds, cereals and ornamentals, count on the support of the school, and is due to be finished within 24 months.
