March 2013 Patent Watch
In March, the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or the European Patent Office (EPO) published 15 patent applications that concerned new agrochemical compounds or biopesticides, from seven companies and three universities or research institutes. Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences and Syngenta all had three applications, while BASF, Mitsui Chemicals and Sumitomo Chemical each had one. The German Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the French national institute for agricultural research, the INRA, both had one application, and there was a joint application from French research institutes INP Toulouse and Agronutrition. There were seven patents for insecticides, five for fungicides, two for herbicides and one for insecticidal and fungicidal activity.
