February 2013 Patent Watch
In February, the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or the European Patent Office (EPO) published 21 patent applications, from seven companies and one research centre, that concerned new agrochemical compounds. Dow AgroSciences was the most active company, with ten applications (all for fungicides). Bayer CropScience had three applications, followed by Sumitomo Chemical and BASF with two each. DuPont, Syngenta, Nihon Nohyaku and Geomar Helmotz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel (Germany) all had one application. The applications were dominated by fungicides, with 17 of the 21, as well as one for a fungicide/insecticide. Insecticides accounted for two applications and there was one herbicide patent.
