In January, the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or the European Patent Office (EPO) published 32 patent applications, from eight companies and one university, that concerned new agrochemicals. The most active company was BASF, with nine applications, followed by Bayer CropScience (seven), Dow AgroSciences (five), DuPont (four), Syngenta and Nippon Soda (two each) and Sumitomo Chemical and Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha (one each). There was also an application from the North Carolina State University (US).
