China to monitor glyphosate production impact
The Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has launched a long-mooted scheme to evaluate the environmental impact of the country’s glyphosate herbicide manufacturers. The evaluation, focusing on glyphosate production via the intermediate, N-(phosphonomethyl) iminodiacetic acid, will take place over three years, ending in 2015. Each year will see the publication of a list of environmentally compliant glyphosate manufacturers. The MEP hopes that the evaluation will reduce the impact of glyphosate production on the country’s environment.
