EU OK for chlorfenapyr biocide

EU approval has been granted to the insecticide/acaricide, chlorfenapyr, for use in wood preservatives. BASF supported the active ingredient through the review of existing biocides under the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8). The approval becomes effective from May 1st 2015 to give national regulators time to adopt the new authorisation conditions. Use will not be permitted by non-professionals or on wood that will be used outdoors, unless it can be demonstrated that risks can be reduced to an acceptable level. Chlorfenapyr has no agrochemical uses in the EU after BASF withdrew its application for approval in 2001 (Agrow No 376 , p 9).
