China OKs Sinochem’s diamide insecticide
China’s Ministry of Agriculture's Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals(ICAMA) has approved the registration of the diamide insecticide, SYP-9080. It was developed by Sinochem Agro and Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry, both of which are subsidiaries of the Chinese state-run chemical conglomerate, Sinochem Group. The registration is the result of Sinochem’s “determination … to develop pesticides with our own intellectual property rights,” said Dr Zhaoqiang Li, marketing director of Sinochem Agro. Sinochem Agro believes that the new product will bolster its insecticide product line. Sinochem Group’s pesticide business achieved total sales of some Yuan 7,000 million ($1,129 million at the current rate) in 2011 (Agrow No 652, pp 20-21).
