USDA extends comment on GM crop EISs
The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is extending the public comment period by one month on its decision to prepare environmental impact statements (EISs) on genetically modified dicamba- and 2,4-D herbicide-tolerant maize, soybean and cotton lines. The APHIS plans to prepare two EISs covering: Monsanto's dicamba-tolerant MON87708 soybeans and dicamba- and glufosinate-tolerant MON88701 cotton; and Dow AgroSciences' 2,4-D- and aryloxyphenoxy propionate inhibitor tolerant DAS40278 maize, 2,4-D- and glufosinate-tolerant DAS68416 soybeans and 2,4-D, glufosinate- and glyphosate-tolerant DAS4406 soybeans. It had requested comments to be submitted by June 17th (Agrow No 664, p 14). The APHIS plans to hold two online virtual public meetings on the planned EISs on June 26th and June 27th and has extended the public comment period until July 17th.
