AkzoNobel increases MCA capacity
Dutch chemical company AkzoNobel is increasing its production capacity for the herbicide intermediate, monochloroacetic acid (MCA), at its facility at Delfzijl in the Netherlands. An additional annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes of MCA solution will come on stream in 2014 and address the bottlenecks in the current supply chain of the Delfzijl plant. “Although market growth for MCA in Europe is more or less flat, this capacity increase will help us to address the growing demand of those customers who apply MCA solutions instead of MCA flakes,” says global marketing and sales director Ralf Tatas. The Delfzijl plant has an existing capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year.
