Indian state lifts ban on Mahyco Bt seed sales
The Indian state of Maharashtra has lifted the ban on Monsanto licensee Mahyco from carrying out any trading activity in the state, domestic media report. The ban prohibited the company from selling Monsanto’s genetically modified insect-resistant Bt cotton seed. It was imposed last year in August by the state’s director of inputs and quality control for unfair trade practices (Agrow No 646, p 33). The lifting of the prohibition has reportedly been undertaken “in the public interest”.
