New EU biocide fees in force
A new system for charging fees for the evaluation and registration of biocides, including non-crop pesticides, comes into force on July 8th. Regulation 564/2013 sets the fees payable to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) for different categories of biocide applications (Agrow No 665, p 8). The new system aims to encourage safer products by charging more for hazardous active ingredients, and reimbursing costs for safer alternatives. Fees will be reduced for smaller companies.
