Italy grants 120-day OK to Sipcam fungicide

Italy has granted an emergency 120-day approval to Sipcam Oxon’s fungicide, Clortosip 500B (chlorothalonil 500 g/litre), for the control of Cercospora leaf spot (Cercospora beticola) on sugar beet. Clortosip is a broad-spectrum, preventive fungicide and can be employed as a resistance management tool. It is approved for use at 2 litres/ha. Leaf spot causes up to 50% yield losses, and is the major fungal disease on the crop, Sipcam notes. Clortosip 500B has been authorised for the period June 1st to September 28th. It had also been approved for a similar period for use on chickpeas at 1.5 litres/ha until July 12th.
