Monsanto/Nimbus in fungicide discovery deal
Monsanto has entered into an agreement with the US pharmaceutical discovery firm, Nimbus Discovery (Cambridge, Massachusetts), to develop novel broad-spectrum fungicides for agricultural use. The companies will create a jointly owned entity that will have access to Nimbus' validated computational discovery platform for the co-development programme. Monsanto will have access to applications within agriculture and Nimbus will retain rights for all other uses. The deal arose from a Monsanto collaboration with Nimbus founder Atlas Venture to explore investment opportunities in early-stage life science companies. "Working with Monsanto gives Nimbus a unique opportunity to showcase its integrated computational chemistry and drug discovery strengths in the global agricultural marketplace," says Nimbus chief scientific officer Dr Rosana Kapeller.
