Connecticut restricts insecticides to protect lobsters

A bill signed into law last month by the US state of Connecticut governor Dannel Malloy restricts the coastal use of two pesticides in a bid to help protect the state’s declining lobster population. The new law requires state environmental officials to establish a plan by September to limit the use of the insecticides, methoprene and resmethrin, along much of the Connecticut coast. The two pesticides are used to combat mosquitoes but widespread use of the chemicals has sparked concerns about their effects on lobster populations in Long Island Sound.
