Biofuels to boost agchems
The increasing cultivation of crops for biofuel production is likely to provide a boost to the agrochemical industry. This is the prediction of an impact analysis of biofuels on crop production conducted by the UK-based agricultural marketing consultancy, Innovation Management (Burwell, Cambridgeshire). The report says that by 2013, areas growing crops for biofuels in the three major biofuel production regions in the world would consume agrochemicals worth $4,800 million. The three areas identified are: the US, accounting for $2,500 million worth of agrochemicals on maize grown for biofuel use; the EU, accounting for $1,550 million in oilseed rape; and Brazil, accounting for $750 million in sugar cane.
