Italian court maintains ST suspensions
Three major agrochemical companies have lost a case in Italy seeking to overturn the Ministry of Health’s suspension of several insecticidal seed treatments for use on maize. The suspensions cover: BASF’s fipronil-based seed treatments, and those containing Bayer CropScience’s clothianidin and imidacloprid, and Syngenta’s thiamethoxam ( Agrow No 553, p 12). The companies challenged the legality of the ministerial decree suspending the products and requested its immediate withdrawal. The Italian court, the Consiglio di Stato, found in December 2008 for the bee industry with a “conditional” opinion.
