Australia approves GM clover test
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has approved an application from the Victoria Department of Primary Industries (DPI) to conduct a small-scale test of genetically modified virus-resistant clover. The clover expresses an alfalfa mosaic virus coat protein gene to confer resistance to the disease. The DPI plans to test the clover at a single 633 m 2 site in 2009-11. The OGTR had previously concluded that the test posed negligible risks ( Agrow No 556, p 18).
