Uganda adopts GMO law

Uganda has adopted biotechnology legislation, according to the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA). The government's cabinet has approved the Ugandan National Biotechnology and Biosafety Policy, which was devised by the country's National Council for Science and Technology in 2002. Uganda has already conducted research on genetically modified crops ( Agrow No 536, p 21) but the law will allow the commercial planting of such crops.
