Dow/Sangamo confirm efficacy of GMO tool

Dow AgroSciences and US biotechnology company Sangamo BioSciences (Richmond, California) have confirmed the efficacy of their genetically modified crop technology in research published online in the journal, Nature, in April. The study demonstrated the insertion of a herbicide tolerance gene at a precise location in the genome so that it induced herbicide tolerance and disrupted phytate biosynthesis. Dow gained a commercial licence to Sangamo’s zinc-finger nuclease technology last year after a three-year research deal ( Agrow No 546, p 3).
