BASF denies link to Brazil pesticide leak
BASF has denied knowledge of any lawsuit against it for the pollution of a Brazilian river through a leak of the organochlorine insecticide, endosulfan. The company has received no official notification of any judicial decision, it says. The comment follows media reports that a judge had found against it and two other companies, national agrochemical company, Servatis (Resende), and Nufarm subsidiary Agripec. The companies were ordered jointly to compensate 1,200 fishermen on the River Paraiba do Sul, in Rio de Janeiro state, according to the official press agency, Agencia Brasil.
