EFSA consults on future plans
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is seeking comments on its draft strategic plan for 2009-13. The EFSA's activities include the risk assessment of agrochemicals and genetically modified crops. The plan lists objectives to meet the challenges of stringent regulatory requirements, new technologies, the sustainability of Europe's food production practices, and climate change. For example, it is expected that the requirement for environmental risk assessments will grow, the EFSA notes. Improvements in efficiency and greater co-operation within and outside the EU are also required. Such aims are behind the establishment of a new EFSA agrochemical committee (see this issue). Comments on the draft plan can be submitted until November 3rd 2008. The final plan is expected to be adopted in December.
