Industry looks to future work on new EU agchem rules
The European agrochemical industry is hoping that the potential negative impact of new pesticide rules can be reduced in future talks on how to implement the measures. Proposals to impose greater restrictions on agrochemical registrations were voted through by the European Parliament this month, based on a compromise text agreed earlier by MEPs and EU Ministers ( Agrow No 559, p 7). The proposals need to be officially adopted by Ministers before becoming law, after which implementation details would be hammered out. The European Crop Protection Association (ECPA) is calling for the approach to the application of the legislation "to be one of great care and due diligence".
