Western Australia to monitor GM canola
An Australian study to monitor gene flow in genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant canola has been extended to Western Australia this year. Some 20 GM canola trials covering 850 ha will be monitored in the state as part of the Grains Research and Development Corporation project, which started in eastern Australia last year. The Western Australia government has allowed the limited planting of GM canola this year ( Agrow No 559, p 16). Commercial cultivation started in New South Wales and Victoria in 2008. Plantings in those states are expected to exceed 100,000 ha this year.
