Call for Rwandan GM crops
Scientists have called for the adoption of biotechnology for growing crops to up food production in Rwanda. Dr Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe, director general of the national research centre, Intitut des Sciences Agronomiques du Rwanda, has suggested the need for developing disease and weevil-resistant potatoes, the Rwandan newspaper, The New Times,reports. According to Dr Bagabe, a draft for a biotechnology law has been sent to the cabinet for approval, the newspaper adds. The neighbouring country of Uganda already plants genetically modified crops.
