Italy suspends seed treatments
Italy has suspended the use of several insecticidal seed treatments over concerns for the health of bees. The suspensions cover: BASF’s fipronil-based seed treatments, and those containing Bayer CropScience’s clothianidin and imidacloprid, and Syngenta’s thiamethoxan. There are also unconfirmed reports that the seed treatment products have been suspended in Slovenia. The suspensions started on September 20th. Among the affected crops are maize and sugar beet.
