Monsanto/Pilot Grove settle GMO dispute
Monsanto has settled a two-year patent infringement dispute with the US grower group, Pilot Grove Cooperator Elevator (Pilot Grove, Missouri), over genetically modified Roundup Ready soybeans. Pilot Grove acknowledges violating Monsanto’s proprietary technology and accepts responsibility for damages, Monsanto says. Compensation due under the settlement will remain in the local community to fund scholarships, Monsanto adds. Pilot Grove will develop a stewardship policy to avoid future patent infringement and provide training for employees. Of the 125 lawsuits filed by Monsanto against farmers for seed patent infringement, all but eight have been settled out of court, the company points out.
