EU proposes rules for new agchem sprayers
The European Commission has proposed new environmental protection requirements for agrochemical sprayers. The proposed directive covers new sprayers, which would have to comply with the requirements before they could be sold or used. The measures form part of the Commission's proposed thematic strategy for the sustainable use of pesticides ( Agrow No 544, p 10), which includes separate provisions for the regular maintenance and inspection of existing sprayers. The aim is to improve the efficiency of sprayers so that they use less pesticide and reduce pesticide losses during mixing, loading, spraying and cleaning operations, the Commission says.
