US/Canada update potato nematode protocol
US and Canadian authorities have issued revised guidelines on monitoring potato cyst nematodes ( Globodera pallida) to enable continued trade in seed potatoes. The guidelines require increased soil sampling and testing from all fields where seed potatoes are grown for trade between the countries. A monitoring programme was established in 2006 following the detection of G pallida in the US state of Idaho and G rostochiensis in the Canadian province of Quebec. The 2006 guidelines were revised last year ( Agrow No 544, p 18).
