Brazil OKs GMOs for field trials only

Brazilian authorities have approved 17 applications for field trials of genetically modified crops, while delaying a decision on the marketing of others. The Brazilian national technical commission for biosafety, the CTNBio, granted the go-ahead for trials on 12 GM maize (double and single trait insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant) crops, three for cotton (insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant), one soybean (insect-resistant) and one sugar cane (improved sucrose).
