Cocoa disease may assume global proportions

The frosty pod rot ( Moniliophthora roreri) disease in cocoa plants may be a global threat to the cocoa industry, warns CABI, a not-for-profit agricultural research organisation. The disease, currently confined to Latin America, infects actively growing cocoa pods and has rapidly replaced Witches’ Broom ( Crinipellis perniciosa) as the number one constraint on cocoa in any country where both exist.
