Sichuan Huaying begins glyphosate project
Construction work has begun on Chinese agrochemical company Sichuan Huaying Chemical’s 10,000 tonnes/year glyphosate herbicide production facility, Chinese media report. Located in Xinjin industrial park in China’s Sichuan province, the Yuan 235 million ($34.4 million) facility will be the largest glyphosate production plant in the province. The company forecasts that the project, expected to be completed by October this year, will realise Yuan 350 million ($51.2 million) in annual sales. Sichuan Huaying believes that as the area of genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant crops increases, the worldwide demand for glyphosate will rise at a rate of 15% every year.
