Bayer defends mefenpyr patent in China
Bayer CropScience has succeeded in defending the patent rights to its herbicide safener, mefenpyr, in China, the company reports. A court in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, has ordered Chinese agrochemical supplier Jiangsu Tianrong to stop selling mefenpyr, and pay compensation to Bayer in a judgement at first instance. Jiangsu Tianrong "unlawfully produced" mefenpyr and sold it to Chinese farmers and customers in other Asian countries. Bayer filed a lawsuit against the Chinese company in 2008 to enforce its intellectual property rights under a Chinese patent ( Agrow No 542, p 1).
