Luxembourg bans Monsanto's GM maize

Luxembourg has banned the cultivation of Monsanto's EU-approved genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize, reports French newswire Agrisalon.com. The report cites a decree signed by the country’s Health Minister, Mars Di Bartolomeo, which has provisionally prohibited the cultivation of MON810. It goes on to say that the decision is based on new evidence published in 2008 and 2009 but which does not suggest a “total lack of safety” for MON810.
